Camilla Civardi, Kalyan Pasumarthy and Juan Ocampo, our new PhD students since September 2019.

Hello Camilla Civardi!

What brought you to Lund University and Sten K. Johnson Centre for Entrepreneurship?

My Master Thesis was the beginning of everything. While researching the topic I realised that I had only scratched the surface and I found myself writing so many more things which would have never fit in that single document. Lund University is giving me the opportunity to pursue this interest and further explore the topic.

Tell us about your new research! What are you expectations?

My research is related to the world of crowdfunding and angel financing. As every researcher hopes, my goal is to produce an output of good quality. I really want to contribute to the academy with new findings, which could be applied to the entrepreneurship world and benefit the people that work in the sector.

What is your background?

I have a Master in Finance and Management and I previously worked in the IPO Division of an Investment Banking firm.

Tell us something surprising about yourself!

Talk to me about everything, especially food. Apparently, my first spoken word was "pappa", a simple Italian word signifying meal or food.

Hi Kalyan Pasumarthy!

What brought you to Lund University and Sten K. Johnson Centre for Entrepreneurship?

A series of unexpected events! As a Finance student, my usual hopes and dreams revolved around the world of banking and boring grey suits, until I got the opportunity to work on a thesis, that gave me a peek into the world of research! The experience felt pertinent.

Tell us about your new research! What are you expectations?

As a new PhD candidate in a 'far-off, alien country' (described so by my granny), the first day took me by surprise. The department was extremely lively, and there were positive vibes all around with every other person in the room far more experienced! Looking forward for the learning to further, and conversations to take place!

What is your background?

I come from a Business and Commerce background, with an MSc in Finance and Management from Cranfield University.

Tell us something surprising about yourself!

I'm an avid motorcyclist (Enduro touring, particularly), play a bit of guitar and piano as well!

Hello Juan Ocampo!

What brought you to Lund University and Sten K. Johnson Centre for Entrepreneurship?

Lund University wants to address the challenges the world is facing with regard to sustainability. Thus LU is a place where different stakeholders meet to have discussions that evolve into projects with a societal impact.

Entrepreneurship is about identifying opportunities and acting on them, embracing innovation in different forms, and envisioning different futures. That is why I believe Sten K. Johnson Centre for Entrepreneurship is a perfect place for me to engage and discuss new ways of understanding Money and studying the impact, these economic infrastructures have in society.

Tell us about your new research! What are you expectations?

Technology empowers us to act locally, autonomously and in decentralized ways and my research objective is to, in a global context, find ways to govern, communicate and scale the impact of new monetary models. This with a special focus on achieving the 2030 Sustainability Development Goals.

As a Ph.D. fellow for the Agenda 2030 Graduate School, I expect to identify challenges and conflicting elements in the sustainability agenda, contribute with new perspectives, and create solutions for the challenges ahead. (While having fun!).

What is your background?

I have a Bachelor and Master degree in Industrial Engineer from Universidad de Los Andes (Colombia) and a Master in Organizational Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Copenhagen Business School (Denmark).

I have experience as a consultant for the World Bank and have been a Project Manager for Private and Public Organizations in Latin America. This is complemented with my involvement in technological and entrepreneurial ecosystems around Europe. Moreover, I have teaching experience in different educational contexts.

Tell us something surprising about yourself!

One lie, one true: I practice Martial Arts / I am scared of heights.
